Match Report There are games that somehow define a season. The cup final in 2013 (the first official trophy recorded on this site), the 1-1 against the powerful SC Mzansi in 2016, even the 1-0 against Lenesia last year that push Panorama at the top, where they stayed until the end. And today another fantastic team performance, against Lenesia once again, adds to the collection.

The match was going to be tense from the start. While Panorama were 2 points ahead of Lenesia, and still unbeaten, Lenesia had 1 game in hand and a chance to leapfrog Panorama at the top. The two best attacks (44 goals in 8 games for Lenesia, 43 in 9 for Panorama) and two best defences (10 for Lenesia, 7 for Panorama) were bound to provide a hard game.

Kelly decided to play the team with a solid 4-5-1, asking the wing backs (Olgiati and Lewis) to mostly sacrifice attacking duties to help Atkinson and Smith to cover on the flanks. With a returning Robson and Clive Smith pairing up in the middle, the solidity was guaranteed, with Jeanes taking care of the initiali dangers.

Dixon, Harris and Almeida completed the central midfield trio, just holding Lenesia central attempts and forcing them to often play wide, providing tackles were tackles were needed.
With almost 10 people involved in defensive duties, Bailey, deployed as a solitary striker, was left up front in order to provide some sort of linking in the few counter attacks that Panorama managed.

Lenesia had at least 3 golden opportunities to score, but a mixture of bad aim, Jeanes' great saves and frustration helped Panorama in ending the first half with a solid 0-0.

Unfortunately the behaviour of Lenesia players soon turned from terrible to despicable, constantly putting pressure on the referees (like the worst Colombian team), and fighting for every little thing. Out of frustration they started to behave like a bunch of Neymars, and Kelly took advantage of that by adding Wayne to help Bailey in the attacking duties and raising the attacking line, noticing how Lenesia was running out of steam and building up useless rage.

The last 20 minutes, after Lenesia hit their second post of the night,  the tide turned and it was all Panorama. Lewis and Olgiati were free to push, and the rest of the team gained meters by meters while controlling the ball and attacking Lenesia. Bailey had two golden opportunities to score but was unlucky with his finishing. Wills provided some physicality and soon Panorama could smell blood.

In the last minute of the game Panorama won yet aother corner (the 13th of the game). Bailey took it and is powerful cross surprised the defense and the keeper. Olgiati jumped with the grace of a powered-up italian plumber, and just like Mario and his coins, he reached for the ball and powered it in the net.
A Lenesia player kicked the ball out even if it landed well behind the line, and after the referee called the game, with a deserved win by Panorama, they lost their mind.

The Lenesia keeper confronted the referee (who was on the line and could clearly see the ball crossing the line) and, with a coward act, pushed him in the face, starting another useless fight that will certainly be reported to the league. Panorama was totally uninvolved in the craziness that followed, leaving Lenesia to pathetically trying to jusify their horrid behaviour.

At the end Kelly's team got the three points and +5 on the table. And that's all that matters!

Some factoids:

  • Panorama is now on a 11 matches unbeaten streak. The fourth longest in their history (26 games between 2013 and 2014 is still the current record, followed by two 17 games streaks)
  • with 45 goals already scored in 10 games, Panorama is 2 goals away from their overall record of 47 (in 26 games!) from 202/13
  • Olgiati scored for the 6th match in the row, while Bailey provided his 5th assist of the season
  • Panorama have lost only 2 games since October
