Match Report |
Not many players in the starting 11 remember the days, around a decade ago, when Panorama weren't the dominating force (or a constant presence in the top 3 and cup finals) that they are today in the West Rand (and beyond), but played week by week against teams that were stronger, quicker and younger. They used to win some, lose some, but they never stopped fighting. Over the years the team improved under the guidance of Kelly, with the tipping point being the cup final of 2013 that was followed by more league and cup triumphs. Robson inherited a strong team, but a team that started to lose players over the years, and manage to rebuild a team that still followed the gritty blueprints of Kelly's, but added way more flair up front. The numbers talk by themselves, from 2012 to 2017 Panorama lost 57 games, since 2018 they lost only 6 (even if the 2020 season was bust due to Covid-19). The high scoring games are fun to watch, but the hard games make the players and create a team unity that propels to glory. Panorama played over the years legendary games, like the aforementioned cup final, or an important 1-1 draw (that felt like a win) against mighty SC Mzansi in 2016, or a 1-0 win in 2018 against Lenasia that kicked started a long rivalry were Lenasia challenged Panorama, finishing behind Panorama in second place three seasons in a row, with a lost league cup final to top it all. When leagues were merged, Panorama ended the Bryanston Warriors domination and beat them in the supercup before finishing above them for their first League 1 triumph. So today it was one of those games. Robson deployed his team against Bosmont (coming from 7 wins in the first 7 games), and through a fantastic display by Jeanes and the defence, managed to win thanks to a penalty taken by Egbers when Lewis was fouled in the area. It was enough to beat a team boasting Matthew Booth in the starting eleven. Thanks to this win , Panorama now sit at the top, level with other two teams (Leeds and Bosmont, which will play each other in 2 weeks time), and they have already opened a big gap with the 4th team in the log.
