Match Report |
Panorama started the season after the Christmas break in the same way they ended it: by winning. This was the 20th game in an unbeaten streak that started after the defeat at home to Marks Park the 19th of June 2013. After assaulting Randburg in the first half, the Undertakers were unlucky to have an Olgiati's goal disallowed for a non-existing offside. Harris, assisted by Olgiati, missed a good chance when he couldn't convert in front of the keeper. Panorama kept pushing, attacking on the wings and relying on the always solid back four to press high on the field. The three central midfielders (Almedia, Harris and Veldon) coped well with the physical Randburg's side and distributed the ball at will. From an almost innocuous ball, Olgiati managed to find a cross for Thornton, who converted with a powerful header. Soon after Thornton was unluckly after yet another combination with Olgiati didn't find the net. The second half was more chaotic. Probably the 6 weeks off for the christmas break added some rusts and didn't help the fitness level, and Randburg tried to get some advantage with the long balls. But it was a long ball played by Morris and converted by Olgiati that gave Panorama the 2-0 lead. Some injuries (Almeida and Thompson, replaced in goal by Thornton) gave Randburg a chance to press, and they found the 2-1 with a very lucky bounce that beat the goalkeeper. But Panorama managed to keep Randburg at bay and after missing some good opportunities with Mathebula, ended the game with a 2-1 win to start 2014 the right way. Gary Thornton was elected man of the match. Scored the opener and then, once in goal, saved the game with some brilliant keeping |
