Match Report |
After a disappointing Winter League, Panorama started a new life in Division 2 of the 2017/18 Summer League rediscovering their mojo and winning a league home game for the first time since February 2017. Even with a lot of players missing (Stoychev, Almeida, Lewis, Vorster, Robson, Wills and Bailey), Kelly was able to start with a strong team, with a solid 4-5-1 with Bezuindehout deployed as solitary striker (after recovery from an operation) and Thornton in a free role in the midfield. Without Robson Kelly combined Dixon with Smith, while using another italian player, Meroni, on the right side, providing constant support to his other italian team-mate, Olgiati, on the right. De Leo instead was deployed on the left wing. From the start Panorama attacked with intent, dominating the early exchanges and moving from a 4-5-1 o a 4-3-3 with ease. Harris and Atkinson kept winning the ball, while most of the actions happened from the righ side, where Panorama exploited the superior speed and power. It took Panorama only 10 minutes to find the goal. Meroni found Olgiati, who crossed for Bezuidenhout who controlled and unleashed a precise shot for the 1-0. Few minutes later, Harris found the running Bezuidenhout who scored from an impossible angle. Marks Park pulled one back when a tentative shot from 35 meters surprised Jeans, returning in goals after a long season away. But Panorama didn't let Marks Park recover, and it was Thornton who took care of the business with two goals in 10 minutes. The first one was a beautiful free kick from the right side on the area which didn't leave any chance to the keeper. Then, from a scramble during a corner, Thornton was the quickest to react and score. Panorama could have scored few more before half time, but Olgiati missed some good chances and Harris couldn't find his range from distance. In the second half Panorama relaxed, but Marks Park offered little resistance. From an error by the keeper, Atkinson managed to score with a precise left foot, and once again Bezuidenhout combined on the right to complete his hat-trick. In the final minutes of the game there was glory also for Olgiati, scoring from a tap-in from yet another run by Bezuidenhout. Thornton could have completed his hat trick too but he misjudged his kick from fw meters out. Marks Park scored the second from a penalty in the dying minutes, with Jeanes saving the first shot but not the second. Man of the match was awarded to Meroni, dominating the right side and providing plenty of support for Olgiati and Bezuidenhout. Overall a good start of the season for Panorama, showing some return to form! |
