Match Report |
Panorama continued the awful start of the season with an unexpected home defeat to Dainfern. It was one of those crazy games usually reserved for friendly or end of the year affairs. Both defences had a day off, and only the conversion rate made a difference during the game. Dainfern had maybe 8 chances, and scored with 6 of them, while Panorama had probably double the chances, and, apart from an unlucky bar earlier in the game, missed at least 4-5 easy chances. Trying to cope with the lack of players due to injuries and other issues (Atkinson, Bezuidenhout, Dixon, Kennedy, De Toit, De Leo, Stoychev...), Kelly decided to introduce two new players acquired during the freewinter transfer market. One of them was a former Panorama player (Swanepoel), while Makgagke made his full debut later in the game. Panorama started strong, and scored early in the first half after a delicious cross by Miles was converted with a diving header by the returning Lewis, who unfortunately broke his finger in the landing. Swanepoel had few chances to score, but his best effort landed on the bar, while Olgiati couldn't find the target on two occasions. But Dainfern hit twice on the counter attack to turn around the game. Panorama started to rely on free kicks and corners to try to win headers with their physical superiority, and from a corner taken by Harris it was Wills who managed to convert with a header after jumping well above the marker. Dainfern reacted seconds earlier by taking the whole home team by surprise with a clever flick from the restarting kick off, which resulted in their quick forward beating the offside trap and Jeanes for the 3-2. In the second half Dainfern once again hit Panorama on the counter scoring a fourth and fifth from a penalty kick. Panorama finally reacted and found some urgency, first scoring with Olgiati with a toe-punt from outside the area (assisted by Jeanes, who decided to forget about his goalkeeping duties and help the team), and then by Swanepoel who converted from short range after a pass by Robson, attacking the post from a free kick. Panorama abandoned any sort of shape (not that they kept it much during the game), and, looking for a 5-5, they were once again hit on the counter for the final 4-6. This was the third defeat in this league (4th in row since last season's cup quarter final), and with an away trip to SC Mzansi, Kelly will need to find answer to the team's slump of form... |
