Match Report |
On a difficult field against a historically tough team (in the last 3 games played at Dainfern Panorama lost one and drew two), Panorama provided another masterclass in demolishing Dainfern and continuining their crazy adventure in the upper echelon of the league. Kelly, still missing Dixon and with Harris, Bezuidenhout and De Toit unavailable, started the team with a 4-4-2, pairing Thornton with De Leo, with Stoychev and Lewis out wide. From the start Dainfern, like most of the teams in the league, could not cope with the perfect balance of speed on the wing and the high pressure provided by Almeida and Atkinson. It was once again Thornton, getting in touch with his young self in another dominating display in this 2017, who opened the goal scoring with a super free kick that found the top left corner, far away from the keeper. Almeida could have scored the 2-0 (and his third successive goal) with a beautiful bicyle kick few minutes later, but the keeper managed to save it. Stoychev could have added more but once again the keeper kept the ball away. In probably the only big chance of the game, Dainfern could not score when their striker, after beating Jeanes, shot in an empty net only for Smith to block the goal with an incredible flying kick. The back four cointained easily any threat, with Wills, Robson and Stoychev (moved to left back) winning all the high balls (well, more Wills and Robson than Stoychev, who was providing the runs instead) In the second half Panorama kept pushing. The 2-0 was provided by the returning Olgiati, who tapped in an empty net after De Leo's shot was stopped by the post. There was still time for another goal when, from a fantastic cross by Atkinson was smashed home by Thornton. Panorama consolidated a top 3 place, and with one game to go (at home against East Coast) there is still a chance for maybe sneak a second place... |
