Match Report |
Panorama started the year with a scrappy 1-0 win against Randfontein City. With some injured players on the pitch (an heroic Lewis, after an aquatic injury, managed to played most of his game on one foot), and some other absences (Dixon, Almeida, Bezuidenhout and Stoychev were missing for various reasons) coach Kelly started the team with a cautios 4-4-2, pairing Kennedy up front with Thornton. The first 20 minutes were all Panorama. Randfontein was very lucky in escaping some early punishment when Kennedy and Olgiati couldn't find the target from a good position. Harris and Atkinson were allowed more freedom than usual and dominated the early midfield battles. Randfontein responded by playing 5 in the middle, and hoping for the odd long ball to try to score. Their tactics worked, and twice Panorama managed to handle a long ball but Randfontein missed both the glorious chances and they had later a disallowed goal because of an offside. Panorama struggled to find the quick counter attacks moves that have been marking the recent past, and relied too heavily on long balls. Finally Panorama broke the deadlock when a cross by Wayne was superble played into Kennedy's feet by a pass by Thornton. Kennedy hit the ball with precision leaving the keeper no chance. Panorama could have score few more but the rustiness of the christmas period was on display, with missed last passes and terrible shooting. But at the end it didn't matter. Panorama won 1-0 and kept their position in the top 3. |
