Match Report |
Panorama completed an historical double by beating Balfour 1-0 in a repeat of last year's final. Without Robson and Harris, coach Kelly paired Dixon with De Leo, deploying Almeida with Atkinson in a cautious 4-4-2. From the start Panorama had a little edge, and got close to score with Bezuidenhout and Lewis who hit the post with a precise shot from outside the area. Unfortunately Thornton got injured so Kelly had to shift the team in order to change the game tactics. Balforu took advantage of some moment on nervouseness, trying to exploit the wings, but the solid back four of Wills, Stoychev and De Leo coordinates by Dixon managed to keep Balfour away from scoring. The only few shots were saved by Jeanes. In the second half Panorama played a little better, but still far from the expensive and quick game they've been playing in the past months. But a final is a final and all you really need was a moment to change it all. After Bezuidenhout was fouled 30 meters from goal, a long free kick by Dixon found Olgiati who controlled and tried to score from a tight angle. The ball rolled against the post but luckily Wills converted with a precise tap-in for the first and only goal of the game. Panorama spent some nervous 20 minutes holding the fort, with Almeida, Kennedy, Atkinson and DeToit rotating in midfield to stop Balfour's desperate attacks. Up front Lewis, Miles and Bezuidenhout did the best to hold the ball, and at the end Balfour run out of energies to try to score. Panorama defended the cup won last year, and added the trophy to last month's league triumph. For coach Kelly and the team was another medal to add to an incredible list of achievements in the past few years: 2 Division wins and 3 League Cups! |
