Match Report

Panorama suffered their first defeat of the season after two consecutive draws, once again due to their inability to maintain a lead and a lack of depth on the bench to cover for injured players who have been valiantly trying to keep the team afloat.

On a pleasant day with the cold weather finally subsiding, Panorama lined up in a 4-5-1 formation. Miles led the attack, with Peters making his return in midfield alongside Lindsay and Liu. Egbers and Olgiati took up positions on the wings. The defense featured the familiar faces of Neale, Ho Lam, and Benites, with Garrard rejoining the backline. Lee started in goal.

The game began with some confusion, but Panorama soon found their rhythm. They opened the scoring with a well-constructed move starting from Neale, who passed to Olgiati. Lindsay then delivered a precise ball to Egbers, who netted his 50th career goal with a powerful shot from just inside the area.

Shortly after, Peters struck the post, and Olgiati managed to score from a tight angle, doubling the lead. However, Panorama's defensive lapses were costly. Olympia capitalized on a moment of inattentiveness to score and reduce the deficit to 2-1. Neale's yellow card left Panorama defending with ten men for a crucial ten-minute spell, during which they held firm. Yet, they eventually succumbed to a fresher Olympia side, who had the luxury of rotating their players from the bench.

In the second half, Panorama's injury woes continued. Olgiati struggled after taking a knock, and Lindsay appeared hampered by a calf problem. Olympia seized control and scored two quick goals, taking the lead. Despite their efforts, Panorama's chances to equalize were thwarted, with Lindsay hitting the post and others narrowly missing. Olympia's fourth goal seemed to seal the match, but a late combination play between Olgiati and Peters brought the final score to 4-3.

Overall, Panorama displayed courage and determination but were undone by critical mistakes, lapses in concentration, and a lack of commitment from some players. The defense worked tirelessly to protect Lee from relentless attacks but eventually faltered under the pressure.

Some stats from the game:
  • This was the first game between the two sides
  • Egbers finally scored his 50th goal in his Panorama's career (in his 87th game). His first 43 goals were scored before 2023,  but somehow he finally managed to score 7 more since then.
  • Garrard played his 50th game for the team
  • Lindsay's assist moved him only 5 behind Almeida (43 vs 38) and only 3 between Bailey for the G+A contribution (97 vs 94)
