Match Report |
Panorama secured a resounding spot in the League Cup semifinals with an impressive 9-1 victory over Rush. In a thrilling match that followed their nervy encounter against the same opponents last week, where the league title hung in the balance, Panorama displayed a stark contrast in their performance. The champions showed no signs of apprehension as they started with great enthusiasm. Olgiati deployed the team in their customary 4-5-1 formation, introducing a few alterations to the starting lineup. Ho Lam found himself in an unaccustomed role on the right wing, while O'Sullivan positioned himself just behind him. Liu, filling in for the injured Mushore, took his place in goal. Almeida returned to the starting eleven alongside Bailey and Goncalves, with Egbers leading the attack. From the outset, Panorama exhibited a level of superiority over Rush. After hitting the post on two occasions, it was only a matter of time before they broke the deadlock. Goncalves initiated the scoring, winning the ball in midfield and embarking on a powerful run through Rush's defensive line, finishing with precision. Moments later, a corner resulted in Ho Lam deftly redirecting O'Sullivan's shot with his head, beating the keeper. The third goal was a thing of beauty. Ho Lam delivered a long cross, which Bailey met with a spectacular volley from 25 meters out, leaving the keeper with no chance. Rush managed to pull one back, making it 3-1 just before halftime, as Panorama momentarily relaxed in possession. In the second half, Miles was deployed as the striker, with Olgiati returning to his customary right-wing position, and Da Fonseca moving to the middle. Panorama maintained their relentless pressure and performed even better than in the first half. Almeida notched the fourth goal after receiving a pass from Miles inside the box. He completed his brace shortly after, courtesy of a brilliant solo effort by Olgiati, who carved his way through several defenders before providing the assist. Botoulas added to the scoring with a sensational free-kick from 25 meters out that left the goalkeeper bewildered. Almeida sealed his second career hat-trick with a precise penalty kick after Mdunge was fouled in the box. Olgiati, after missing a couple of earlier opportunities, made amends by capitalizing on Liu's long kick, once again evading his markers to score with a perfectly angled shot. Finally, Mdunge got his name on the scoresheet after Da Fonseca's dominant play on the left wing. Overall, it was a stellar performance by Panorama, and they are now eagerly anticipating a challenging semifinal clash against Warriors on the road next week. Some stats from the game:
