Match Report |
After facing two defeats in the last month, Panorama bounced back impressively with a 5-0 demolition of Sandton Warriors. This victory was even more noteworthy considering they played with only 10 men for 50 minutes, after Goncalves was sent off during his first start as team captain — a decision that could have significantly altered the course of the game. Panorama commenced with their typical 4-5-1 formation, which later morphed into a 4-6-0 with Egbers assuming a false 9 position. This adjustment allowed Olgiati and, notably, Mdunge to launch attacks from the wings. From the onset, Panorama dominated, showcasing relaxed and skillful play that began from the defense and involved most of the team in the build-up. They nearly netted three goals within the first five minutes; however, Egbers' opening goal was disallowed due to a handball violation, and Mdunge hit the post twice within a span of five minutes. Eventually, Warriors' resistance crumbled. Mdunge broke the deadlock with a powerful strike from his favored spot, swiftly followed by Bailey, who doubled the lead with a free-kick slightly deflected by a defender. Contrary to settling for a routine win, Panorama faced a setback when Goncalves received a red card following several altercations with the Warriors players. Despite protests, the referee stood firm on his decision, which seemed unwarranted. In the second half, Panorama switched to a 4-5-0 formation, skillfully maintaining possession to keep the ball away from the Warriors. Egbers, who tirelessly maneuvered through the midfield, extended their lead following a precise pass from Liu. With Botoulas making his debut in the defense, Panorama altered their formation to a 1-3-5-0, by playing with a sweeper, bringing on Miles and Janes to give other players a respite. Olgiati then added to the tally with an exquisite lob from midfield, exploiting the keeper's position far from the goal. Finally, Mdunge sealed the dominant performance with a final goal, assisted by Egbers. In goal, Brown enjoyed a relatively relaxed performance, successfully keeping a clean sheet. Unfortunately, the only downside to the match was Ho Lam's ankle injury, sustained during a courageous slide tackle.
