Match Report |
Panorama finished the season with a victory that sealed an important 4th place, just above Randburg. The game against Old Parks was supposed to be a walk in the park, and Panorama in the first 10 minutes had three clear chances to score. Olgiati hit the post with a header, and few minutes later scored, but the goal was ruled off because Bezuidenhout's cross came from outside the back line. Later it was Veldon's turn, on his return after a 4 weeks recovery period, to hit the post. Unfortunately Panorama lost Thornton for an injury in the first half. Panorama dominated the first 20 minutes, but scrappy passing prevented them to be lethal in the last third. Later, one of the many long balls played by Old Parks, was misjudged by Robson and Jeanes, and the opporunity was converted by Old Park's striker for a surprising lead. What followed was an incredible scrappy period of play by Panorama, a bit flat footed and relying on long balls instead of the quick counter attacks that defined the past months. Luckily, after an interchange between Olgiati and Bezuidenhout, the ball ended at Wills' feet who converted with a precise shot, leaving the keeper surprised. In the second half it was more of the same: Panorama tried to improve the quality of the play, without much progress, and Old Parks relied on kicking the ball and hoping for a lucky break (the only clean change they had was stopped by Jeanes). Almeida was then elbowed in the face by a coward act by a Old Parks' midfielder, who attacked him with the ball (and the ref) far away. He left the field with a broken nose and a lot of blood. Panorama then decided to put more pressure on Old Parks, and they were rewarded by a goal by Veldon, from a long free kick taken by Dixon, and another close header by Olgiati, after a flick by Wills. At the end the game finished 3-1, with Panorama managing to get 3 points in an evening where scrappy play was the main protagonist. |
